C2’s Most Admired Women Throughout History

We’re inspired by women who stick together, want to make a change, and care for others, because that’s our goal here at C2 California Clean. We want all women to be healthy and feel great about themselves! Below, we’ve listed some of our most admired women throughout history and why we adore them so much! Who else do you think should be on this list? Comment below!

Lucille Ball

“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.

Lucille Ball was, and still is, one of the most beloved television stars of all time, but that’s not the reason she’s one of our most admired women! Lucy paved the way for female comedians, and we have her to thank for stars like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler! She was also the first woman to run a major TV station and fought to allow her interracial marriage on the screen. Lucy is an inspiration for many reasons, including her attitude, grace, and humor, but the fact that she didn’t get her big break until she was 40 is a true feat over agism! We love Lucy!

Audrey Hepburn

“Nothing is Impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m Possible’!”

Aside from being a fashion icon and film star, Audrey Hepburn was an amazing humanitarian who believed in miracles and lived her life by example. She worked with UNICEF to bring water to villages in Africa so that young women could have time to go to school instead of walking miles to get water every day.

Michelle Obama

“When you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you. You reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed”

Married to the 44th President of the United States, Michelle Obama became the first African American First Lady in the United States. She is extremely well-educated, but also selfless, family-focused, strong, and inspirational. She began the Let’s  Move! program to encourage children and adults to eat better and stay active so that they could live healthy lives. A similar goal to that of C2 California Clean!

Mother Teresa

“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”

One of the most kind and loving people to ever live, Mother Teresa is the perfect example of how we should treat others, whether rich, poor, healthy, or sick. She missioned all over the world and helped anyone she could. Her dedication to helping and loving others was recognized with a Nobel Peace Prize.

Marie Curie

“Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understood.”

Marie Curie was a Polish-born, French physicist, and two time winner of the Nobel Prize, famous for her work on radioactivity. Curie’s efforts, along with her husband, Pierre Curie, led to the discovery of polonium and radium. Which, after Pierre’s death, led to the development of X-rays.

Rita Levi-Montalcini

“It is imperfection — not perfection — that is the end result of the program written into that formidably complex engine that is the human brain.”

She passed away at the age of 103 after dedicating her life to science and medicine. In 1986, jointly with her colleague Stanley Cohen, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology for the discovery of the nerve growth factor, which is key in the study of diseases like dementia and cancer. She was also honored as Senator for life of the Italian Republic.

Oprah Winfrey

“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.”

Her story is the iconic American dream of climbing the ladder of success and going from rags to riches. Oprah grew up in Milwaukee and was repeatedly abused by family members and family friends. Eventually, Winfrey ran away from home and gave birth to a baby boy at the age of 14. Unfortunately her son died shortly after. Her tragic past didn’t stop her from reaching the top however. She excelled as an honors student, won a contest that secured a full scholarship to college, and then worked her way toward becoming the amazing entrepreneur and personality she is today. Despite her net worth of $2.9 billion, her wealth is not what makes her one of our most admired women. We think she is truly remarkable because she is a generous philanthropist and a crusader for human rights. Oprah has used her fame to better the lives of millions.
